12 Hours to Take-off

Posted by Kevin Maes on Dec 16 2007 | Logistics

Less than 12 hours left until our flight is supposed to take off at noon today. We hope the storm that’s coming in tonight won’t delay the flight. We only have a 2 hour layover at the Narita International Airport near Tokyo and the connecting flight only flies once a day. If we miss that, we may need to spend another 24hrs at the airport. Normally that would be an opportunity to get out and see some stuff but, expecting temperatures from the 60’s up to 90’s in SE Asia, we weren’t planning on taking any winter clothing on this trip and Japan’s winter is almost as cold as it is here in New York!

Just in case, it’s a good idea for us to check out what there is to do in the airport should we get stuck there for another day. Here are some photos of the airport and some good candidates for our first sushi in Japan!

So, we’re extremely excited to be in the air again later today and on the road again in just a couple of days. We’ve got a long 14-hour flight to Tokyo and another 5 hours to Hanoi but we’re packing our Sony Vaio laptop with movies and mp3’s and have a combined total of about 12 hours of battery life. If we’re not too excited we might even get some sleep on the flight between meals.

Good luck you two! NY started snowing tonight and it was bitterly cold, though I had already enjoyed my day of swimming -> hot stone massage -> Alvin Ailey performance -> dinner w/ friends at Rue 57. It was wonderful.

At Narita, you will find a lot of restaurants and tons of duty free shops. For a stop over you’ll almost have too much choice to see them all but I wonder what 24hrs might require… hmmm.
