Goodbye, Malaysia and Singapore!

Singapore Skyline at Night

Singapore Skyline at Night

I haven’t posted anything to the bog other than photos over the past week because I’ve been so busy during my time in Malaysia and Singapore (over the last three days). Both countries were the two new destinations for me on this trip and I really loved what I saw of both. I had wide-ranging experiences in Malaysia such as attending the Thaipusam Festival at the Batu Caves, exploring the sites in Georgetown and motorbiking to see monkeys, tea plantations and scenic views in Penang and the Cameron Highlands. I also got to hang out with friends, old and new, as well as their family, co-workers and other friends, getting a more authentic taste of life in Malaysia.

In Singapore I saw sites and ate great food but I also met some very cool people along the way, all of whom were interesting and friendly. I got to see some examples of a really clean, organized and well run city including advanced urban features we don’t even have going on in New York yet. Last night I spent time near the river eating a huge crab, listening to live jazz and taking photos of the city at night. In addition to the photos I’ve posted, I have much more to say about my time in Malaysia and Singapore but I’ll have to play catch up while in Vietnam over the next week. For now, enjoy the photos and I’ll try to post more soon!

Video Page Relaunched!

Posted by Kevin Maes on Feb 03 2009 | Blogging

For those of you who joined us on our trip last year you may remember that we used to have a page devoted to our videos. We temporarily took it down due to technical difficulties with the WordPress plugin we were using to connect to YouTube.

The page has now been relaunched and you can access it by clicking the “Video” tab at the top of every page or by clicking here.

We have added a few videos from this year’s trip and are in the process of editing, uploading and linking more videos to the blog. We’ll continue to announce the addition of any new video in our blog posts.

Less Internet for Real

Posted by Kevin Maes on Jan 26 2009 | Blogging, Logistics, Thailand

My last similar post was a bit of a false alarm. We had gone several days without Internet access but then we found wifi in our hotel room shortly after. This time we’re heading to Koh Mak, a smaller island in the Koh Chang Archipelago, and we’re likely to have more offline time than online for the next 3 days until we reach Chang Mai in the North of Thailand. However, that will give us more time to take photos and post them soon enough. See you soon!

More Sun and Sand, Less Internet

Posted by Kevin Maes on Jan 22 2009 | Blogging, Thailand

As you know, Tamar and I are chillin’ on this great island, Koh Chang. However, we haven’t had much access to Internet so far. That’s not to say that Internet is not available on Koh Chang. It is. but we’ve been so busy hiking, motorbiking, tanning and swimming that we just haven’t been near our computers or the relatively expensive pay-by-the-minute Internet access. We’ve changed hotels and are now at the Coral Resort where there’s wifi. But don’t count on us to be online more now since we’ve got full days of jungle trekking and snorkeling lined up for this weekend!

AirPress

Posted by Kevin Maes on Nov 16 2007 | Blogging, Technology

TESTING…TESTING

This is just a test of the AirPress application. Ok, what’s that? AirPress is a software program that you can download and use for free on a PC or Mac, allowing you to post to your blog directly from your computer’s desktop. AirPress is so called because it runs on Adobe AIR, a new technology created by Adobe Systems (the makers of Photoshop and also Flash), based in CA. AIR combines the Adobe Flash Player and also Webkit (the HTML engine used in Apple’s Safari browser) to run programs that were developed by Web developers like us. Continue Reading »
